MgF2 (Magesium Fluoride is transparent over a extremely wide range of wavelengths .windows, lenses ,and prisms made of this materials can be used over the entire range of wavelengths from 0.12μm(vacuum ultraviolet ) to 8.0μm (infrared). High quality synthetic VUV grade MgF2 is quite expensive. Low grade MgF2 is sometimes used in the infrared but it is inferior to CaF2. MgF2 is tough and works and polishes well, but it is slightly birefringent and should be cut with the optic axis perpendicular to the plane of the window or lens.
Standard ZnS, made by CVD technique, is an excellent windows and domes material for long-wave infrared imaging system for applications, due to its high transmission, good optical uniformity and high strength.
Multispectral ZnS is made from Standard ZnS by a post-deposition hot isostatic process. This process spreads
the transmission band to visible(0.4-12um), thus makes the material clear like water.
multispectral ZnS showing excellent transmission across the visible to long-wave infrared waveband,
with very low scatter and absorption, is well-suited for the applications that require a single aperture for
beam path for several wavebands.
Fused Silica Windows is based on UV synthetic fused silica,which shows better performance from UV to IR spectrum than BK7 material. Also, it is the best choice in terms of thermal stability. In addition to superior transmission characteristics, fused silica exhibits higher thermal properties, exceptional purity, and excellent environmental durability for applications.
